Relocation from Kazakhstan to Cyprus may involve obtaining a residence permit, transferring a business, opening a bank account, tax planning, purchasing property, and relocating with your family. Having a Cypriot company or property does not by itself give a foreign national the right to permanently reside or work in the country.
Preparation begins with choosing the appropriate immigration basis and verifying the source of funds. The corporate structure, banking compliance, and tax status are interconnected but regulated separately.
Why Citizens of Kazakhstan Choose Cyprus
Cyprus combines European Union membership with a developed international business environment. English is widely used in business, and the island is home to a large number of legal, accounting, and corporate consultants.
For families, the advantages include the climate, short distances between cities, private schools, and access to European infrastructure.
For entrepreneurs, Cyprus is attractive due to the possibility of working with foreign counterparties through a local corporate structure. As of January 1, 2026, the corporate tax rate is 15%.
Individuals may benefit from the Non-Dom regime. Subject to the applicable criteria, a tax resident without a Cypriot domicile may be exempt from Special Defence Contribution on dividends and passive interest for up to 17 years.
At the same time, moving from Kazakhstan to Cyprus requires a separate immigration basis. Tax advantages or the existence of a business do not replace a residence permit.
Who Can Move to Cyprus from Kazakhstan
The choice of immigration program depends on the source of income, employment, business structure, and family composition.
The main categories of applicants include:
- entrepreneurs and investors;
- IT specialists and remote employees;
- freelancers;
- financially independent individuals;
- employees of Cypriot companies;
- spouses and children of the main applicant.
Different regimes apply to remote work, living on foreign income, local employment, and investment.
Business owners should separately determine whether they will need work authorization if they intend to personally manage their company from Cyprus.
Grounds for Relocation to Cyprus
A residence basis may include a Visitor Permit, Digital Nomad status, employment status, family reunification, or permanent residence based on investment.
A Visitor Permit is used by individuals who live in Cyprus using external sources of income and do not work in the local market. The Digital Nomad program is intended for remote work for a foreign employer or foreign clients.
If a citizen of Kazakhstan plans to work for a Cypriot company, a status permitting employment in the country is required.
The investment route provides for permanent residence if the established conditions are met, including an investment of at least €300,000.
Business relocation to Cyprus can take place in parallel, but registering a legal entity does not replace the owner’s or director’s personal immigration basis.
Obtaining a Residence Permit in Cyprus for Citizens of Kazakhstan
A residence permit in Cyprus for citizens of Kazakhstan is obtained under a specific immigration category. Visitor Permit and Digital Nomad status have different purposes and requirements.
A Visitor Permit is suitable for individuals with stable foreign income. This status is not intended for employment by a Cypriot employer.
Digital Nomad status applies to third-country nationals who work remotely for a company outside Cyprus or provide services to foreign clients. The minimum net monthly income of the main applicant is €3,500.
A separate regime applies to local employment. This rule also applies to directors if they actually perform employment or management functions in Cyprus.
Depending on the category, applicants may need a passport, proof of address, insurance, bank documents, income information, and confirmation of the chosen immigration basis.
Spouses and children may obtain dependent status if provided for by the relevant program. The right of family members to work is determined separately.

Registering a Company in Cyprus
The most common corporate structure is a private company limited by shares. Company registration in Cyprus includes approval of the company name, preparation of the Memorandum and Articles of Association, and submission of information about the director, secretary, shareholders, and registered office.
A foreign national may own shares in a Cypriot company. However, incorporating a business does not grant the owner a residence permit or any other right of residence.
Appointing a foreign national as a director also does not automatically grant the right to work in Cyprus. If the individual actually performs management functions in the country, their immigration status must permit such activities.
After incorporation, the company undergoes tax registration, discloses information about its ultimate beneficial owners, arranges banking services, and establishes accounting procedures.
Tax residency and substance are assessed separately. Formal registration alone is insufficient to demonstrate that the business is actually managed from Cyprus.
Business Relocation from Kazakhstan to Cyprus
An existing business can be structured through a Cypriot holding or operating company or through a branch of a Kazakhstani legal entity.
Business relocation to Cyprus requires an analysis of the place of management, directors’ functions, employees, contracts, intellectual property, and cash flows.
Tax consequences in Kazakhstan must also be assessed separately. Moving part of the operations abroad does not automatically terminate existing obligations.
For cross-border structures, the double taxation agreement between Kazakhstan and Cyprus, which entered into force on January 17, 2020, should be taken into account.
If the owner relocates together with the company, the corporate model must be coordinated with their immigration status. Registering a company in Cyprus does not replace a residence or work permit.
Taxation After Relocation
An individual’s tax residency is determined under the 183-day rule or the special 60-day rule, provided the established conditions are met.
Obtaining a residence permit does not by itself automatically make an individual a tax resident.
The Non-Dom regime applies to individuals who meet the relevant criteria. Among other things, it affects the taxation of dividends and passive interest.
Individuals are taxed according to a progressive tax scale. The corporate tax rate as of 2026 is 15%.
Before relocating from Kazakhstan to Cyprus, it is necessary to determine when previous tax residency ends and what obligations apply to the declaration of foreign assets.
Opening a Bank Account
A personal account is used for rent, everyday payments, and proof of financial means. A corporate account is required for company transactions, payment of expenses, and receiving business income.
Banks request a passport, proof of address, tax identification number, information about employment or business activities, contracts, and bank statements. The source of funds and source of wealth are verified. The Central Bank of Cyprus oversees financial institutions’ compliance with AML/CFT legislation.
The account-opening period depends on the capital structure and the jurisdictions of counterparties. Complex corporate structures, crypto assets, and undocumented incoming funds may increase the duration of the compliance review.

Purchasing Property in Cyprus
A citizen of Kazakhstan may purchase property subject to the applicable rules for third-country nationals. Before completing a transaction, the title deed, mortgages, restrictions, building permits, and seller’s documents should be checked.
If an applicant plans to purchase property in Cyprus for permanent residence under an investment program, the property must meet the requirements of the relevant regime.
The minimum investment is €300,000 plus VAT for a new residential property. The funds must have a verifiable source and be transferred from abroad in accordance with the applicable requirements.
Costs may include legal services, registration procedures, taxes, VAT where applicable, and bank fees.
Simply deciding to purchase property in Cyprus does not automatically grant the right of residence. Immigration status arises only when the conditions of a specific program are met.
Transferring Funds from Kazakhstan
An international transfer should be carried out after prior coordination with the receiving bank. Documents may include contracts, bank statements, tax returns, and documents confirming the sale of property, dividends, or business income.
AML/KYC checks cover the sender, recipient, purpose of the payment, and the entire chain of funds. The use of cryptocurrency is possible after transparent conversion through a regulated provider. Undocumented P2P transactions and cash deposits increase the risk of rejection.

Relocating with the Family
In a family relocation, the status of the spouse and children depends on the immigration basis of the main applicant. Different programs establish their own conditions for dependent family members.
A child will generally require a birth certificate, documents from an educational institution, and, where necessary, consent from the other parent.
Before relocation, it is advisable to determine the place of residence and school in advance. Private educational institutions may request information about previous education, interview results, and medical documents.
Health insurance may also be among the documents required when applying for immigration status.
Relocating from Kazakhstan to Cyprus with a family requires consideration not only of obtaining residence cards but also of the spouse’s right to work. This depends on the specific regime and should not be assumed automatically.
If family members relocate at different times, the application procedure should be coordinated in advance to avoid gaps between the statuses of the main applicant and dependent family members.
Documents to Prepare
The required set of documents depends on the chosen route, but the main documents should preferably be collected while still in Kazakhstan:
- passports, birth certificates, and marriage certificates;
- certificates of no criminal record, proof of address, and tax residency;
- bank statements and proof of the source of funds;
- employment contracts, corporate documents, and financial statements;
- health insurance, rental agreements, or property purchase agreements;
- children’s educational documents.
Foreign documents may require an apostille and an official translation into Greek or English.
Main Relocation Costs
The budget depends on the chosen immigration basis, family composition, and the scope of additional procedures.
Costs may include government fees, health insurance, translations, document apostilles, housing rent, bank fees, and relocation expenses.
For a corporate project, additional costs may include incorporation, a registered office, secretary services, accounting support, auditing, and other mandatory administrative expenses.
The investment route requires separate capital for the acquisition of the relevant asset. Property costs should also be assessed together with applicable taxes, VAT, and transaction-related expenses.
Legal services in Cyprus depend on the complexity of the project. A simple immigration procedure and a comprehensive relocation of an international business owner require different levels of work.
There is no single fixed cost of relocation, so the budget is calculated after selecting the immigration and corporate scenario.
Common Relocation Mistakes
Common mistakes include choosing a residence permit that does not allow the required activities, transferring money before coordinating with the bank, failing to provide documents proving the source of funds, and establishing a formal company without sufficient substance.
Risks can be reduced through a structured plan: immigration basis, tax analysis, housing, banking compliance, and only then the relocation of the business and family. Relocating from Kazakhstan to Cyprus without such preparation may result in a bank account being rejected or delays in obtaining a residence permit.
Why You Should Work with Lawyers
Comprehensive legal services in Cyprus combine immigration, corporate, banking, and property support. A lawyer checks the basis for residence, prepares documents, registers the company, communicates with the bank, and reviews property agreements.
Almanova Law can support the project from selecting the appropriate structure through to obtaining residence cards. This approach helps coordinate tax and immigration implications before the applicant transfers capital or undertakes irreversible obligations.
